the blow up bamboo collection is a new proposal in different material of the same product in the “blow up” series that the fratelli campana designed for alessi in 2003 made of mirrored stainless steel sticks with a diameter of 5 mm, welded together. the sticks in bamboo are tied together by hand using natural raffia that is soaked in glue, which is also natural.

the drying of the binding provides a collection of raffia that further strengthens the bond. the bamboo that is used is previously smoked for hygienic reasons and in order to dry it out to make it more stable in time. the type of binding and the structure of the pieces resembles the immense framework for building extraordinary technical performances made completely with this type of wood. in respect to the counterparts in steel, other than being resistant are also lighter and give the objects a pleasing flexibility.

the fratelli campana, humberto and fernando, are brazilian designers. Much of their production is influenced by traditional crafts in brazil with found objects. Winner of numerous awards, their designs are part of the permanent collections of numerous museums, including MoMA, museum of decorative arts, Canada, and the vitra design museum.
